If you have ever visited Cherry Grove Beach and North Myrtle Beach, you have probably noticed the many golf carts on our roads. This is a great option for people looking to rent a vehicle while on vacation but don’t want or need a car rental. If you are new to driving a golf cart, here are a few tips to keep you and everyone else safe on the roads.

5 Tips for Driving a Golf Cart in North Myrtle Beach1. Non-Highway Roads Only
In cities like North Myrtle Beach it can be a bit difficult knowing what is a highway and what isn’t, but it’s important to know which roads are highways when you are driving a golf cart. In addition to Highway 17, be sure to avoid Sea Mountain Highway (where our office is located). You can cross highways but you cannot drive down them in a golf cart. (Occasionally you will see someone disregarding this, please don’t follow suit! You will be pulled over and get a ticket. Definitely not the beach momento you want!)

2. Obey Traffic Laws
Too often we see people forgoing basic traffic laws because they are not in a car. Be sure to obey right of way, speed limits and even traffic flow. Stay off the sidewalks as well. They are only for pedestrians!

3. Watch Out for Cars, Motorcycles & Mopeds
Please, please, please keep an eye out for other motorists! We cannot stress this enough. Golf carts are very quiet to drive and small. This means people in cars may not hear you or see you. Keep your self safe by keeping an eye and ear out for others.

4. Wear a Seatbelt
This seems obvious, but sadly most people ignore this law. If you are in a golf cart, buckle up!

5. No Drinking & Driving
Again, this is obvious but we have seen people doing exactly this. Please keep yourself safe and don’t drive intoxicated.

These few tips will help keep you safe, traffic ticket-free and hopefully accident-free. Golf carts are a great way to get around Cherry Grove Beach and North Myrtle Beach and often a wonderful alternative to rental cars.
